Chateau Grand-Puy-Lacoste, Pauillac, Bordeaux, 2011
Country/Region | France, Bordeaux |
Vintage | 2011 |
I’ve revisited a number of 2011 vintage Bordeaux recently, a vintage that was unfairly condemned in the wake of the hype surrounding the splendour of 2009 & 2010. Having been particularly impressed been the lean muscularity and expression of terroir from those in Saint-Julien I thought I’d venture three miles down the road to Pauillac.
Grand-Puy-Lacoste, one of the most consistently high performing fifth growths, is no exception. Barbecued blackberries give way to a finish of freshly sharpened lead pencil which has me at my knees. Perfect to enjoy now, though it certainly has the ability to age, and it costs 25% less than those with the more famous vintages adorning their labels. Bon!
