“The last time I had a Bulgarian red wine was 15 years ago and, if I’m being polite, it wasn’t nearly as accomplished as this. If I’m not then I wouldn’t have even cooked with it in prison.
This wine possesses an ethereal, haunting aroma which reminds me of the very best Pinot Noir I’ve tasted. And yet this is driven by Merlot alongside a supporting cast of Syrah, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Aromas of red cherry, wild garlic and bouquet garni which just beckon you with an irresistible seduction and promise of nothing less than a really wonderful time.
The palate delivers on this promise with a complement of ripe wild raspberries, a hint of minty eucalyptus and smouldering cedar on the finish. Just divine. 19/20″
