Holden Manz, Elysium, Franschhoek, South Africa, 2015
Type | Red, Rosé |
Country/Region | South Africa, Franschhoek |
Vintage | 2015 |
Deep and inky purple segueing into ruby red at the edges, the concentration of colour owing to the co-fermentation production method employed on this wine. Complex and beguiling aromas of mocha, cassis, black plum, violet and rose petals with crushed granite complementing the perfume.
A wine you want to let play and dance on your tongue for minutes, easier said than done given the plush velvety texture that makes it almost impossible not to swallow. Unsurprisingly this is full bodied yet with the grace and poise of a Prima ballerina. The scents detected initially are all present on the palate alongside a complement of blackcurrant jus infused with cinnamon and nutmeg. The finish is thankfully of such length that it slows down your consumption, allowing this hauntingly beautiful wine to be enjoyed at a leisurely pace. A good thing too as there were only 800 bottles produced.
