Uva Mira, The Single Tree, Chardonnay, Stellenbosch, South Africa, 2017
Type | White |

Country/Region | South Africa, Stellenbosch |
Vintage | 2017 |
Uva Mira benefits from the location of its mountain vineyards, which are 620 metres above sea level at their highest point, as the climate falls into category two on the Winkler Scale. In laymans terms this means it has a lot more in common with vineyards in France than their South African neighbours. This, alongside the decomposed granite soils, allows them to produce wines which are the finest expression of terroir weve seen from anywhere in the New World.
The Single Tree Chardonnay, named after (you guessed it) a single tree planted in the vineyard, is produced in tiny quantities of less than 2000 bottles. It has the most oak of any of their expressions of this noble grape, with 9 months in French Oak – 60% of which is new.
This is a mouth watering challenger of the mighty Meursault, with white pear and honeyed green apple complemented by honeysuckle and artisan marmalade on freshly baked sourdough.
