Angostura bitters, developed in 1824 by Johann Gottlieb Benjamin Siegert, a
German doctor, was created in the Venezuelan city of Angostura, now known as
Ciudad Bolivar. Siegert set up a hospital on the orders of Simon Bolivar, the
South American freedom fighter, and initially developed the tonic as a treatment
for tropical diseases.Over time, however, it gained popularity as a condiment
and is now a key ingredient in the preparation of classic cocktails.
Angostura 1824 Premium Caribbean Rum is the result of the careful selection and
blending of various rums aged for twelve years by Angostura's Master Blender.
Once these exquisite rums have been blended, they are stored in American white
oak barrels for an additional maturation period. Only when the master blender
considers the maturation to be complete is the rum bottled in a manual bottling
process to ensure the highest quality and purity.
Awards:
- Gold medal in 2006 at the International Wine & Spirits Competition
- Gold medal in 2006 at the International Spirit Award
- Gold medal in 2013 at the German Rum Festival in Berlin (category 10-14 years)
