Angostura bitters, developed in 1824 by Johann Gottlieb Benjamin Siegert, a
German doctor, was created in the Venezuelan city of Angostura, now known as
Ciudad Bolivar. Siegert set up a hospital on the orders of Simon Bolivar, the
South American freedom fighter, and initially developed the tonic as a treatment
for tropical diseases.Over time, however, it gained popularity as a condiment
and is now a key ingredient in the preparation of classic cocktails.



Angostura 1919 is one of Angostura's outstanding products and has established
itself as a premium rum on an international level.

Its history dates back to 1932, when a fire destroyed the headquarters of the
Caribbean Rum Association, leaving only a few charred barrels. These barrels,
which were acquired by Angostura's master distiller Fernandez, still contained
rum from 1919. After its discovery, the rum was carefully blended and marketed
under the name 1919 Aged Rum, reflecting the quality and historical heritage of
the original rum.
