Unofficially, the Ardbeg distillery has been distilling since 1794 - in 1815,
the distillery was purchased by John McDougall and officially opened under the
name Ardbeg."Ardbeg" comes from the Gaelic and translated means something like
"small hill".
The distillery is located on the south coast of the whisky region of Islay.
Ardbeg Distillery presents its latest limited edition Ardbeg BizarreBQ,
distilled by Master Distiller Dr. Bill Lumsden together with barbecue hero
Christian Stevenson (aka DJ BBQ) using a unique recipe. Ardbeg BizarreBQ is made
from double charred oak casks, Pedro Ximenez sherry casks and BBQ casks from
Ardberg Distillery, which are extra charred on a traditional fire basket. The
combination of these barrels creates a deliciously sweet but also spicy-smoky
flavor that goes perfectly with barbecue.
Since 2020, the distillery has already been cooperating with DJ BBQ with the
intention of producing its own whiskey. The shared passion for smoke and rich
flavor united Dr. Bill and DJ BBQ in this new single malt, which is one of the
most awarded smoky whiskies in the world.
