The roots of Beirao Licor go back to the 19th century, when it was developed in
a pharmacy in the small town of Lousa. The current producer, J. Carranca
Redondo, founded the company in 1940 and helped Beirao achieve international
fame. The liqueur owes its name to the "Beirao Congress", which took place in
the Portuguese region of Beira in 1929.
