Bere Barley is one of Britain's oldest and most resilient barley varieties. Its
cultivation requires exceptional effort and patience to unlock the full
potential of this traditional grain and to appreciate its unique
characteristics.
Bruichladdich Bere Barley 10 Years Old is a unique single malt whisky made from
100% Bere barley, an ancient Scottish grain grown by the Orkney College Agronomy
Institute. Distilled in 2013, this whisky represents the expression of a single
vintage and has been matured for 10 years.
The maturation process took place in a combination of first-fill bourbon casks
(80%) and second-fill Pauillac wine casks (20%), resulting in a remarkable,
complex taste. The barley used comes from Weyland and Watersfield, Muddisdale
and Quoyberstane farms, as well as St. Ola, Westermill and The Northfield in
Burray - all ideal growing regions for this particular grain variety.
