The Erwin Sabathi winery, founded in Leutschach an der Weinstrasse in green
Styria, Austria, experienced a significant upswing in 1992 when Erwin Sabathi, a
tenth-generation descendant, joined his parents' business. On this basis, he
independently established the now renowned "Erwin Sabathi" brand.
The winery's coat of arms is characterized by rich symbolism embedded in a
design of black and gold elements. Divided by a golden crosshair, the first
field shows an oak tree with three leaves and three acorns, the second a vine
with grape and leaf, the third two diagonally crossed swords and the fourth a
brown trout - all in gold. Above this coat of arms is a helmet with black and
gold covers, on top of which is a black cushion fringed in gold, on which two
golden lions hold a silver shell. These elements symbolize stability and value.
Erwin Sabathi Sauvignon Blanc Leutschach is made exclusively from hand-picked
Sauvignon Blanc grapes, which are fermented with natural yeasts and matured for
14 months in traditional oak barrels. As an organic product, the wine has a
drinking potential of up to 5 years and is fitted with a screw cap.
As an expression of its terroir, Sauvignon Blanc Leutschach reflects the
characteristic features of its homeland, Leutschach an der Weinstrasse. The warm
climate with moderate rainfall and the cool winds of the Koralpe promote
significant temperature differences between day and night, ideal for the
development of fruity aromas.
Geologically, Leutschach is located in an area characterized by extensive marine
deposits from the southwestern Styrian sea basin. These conditions contribute
significantly to the unique character of Sauvignon Blanc from this region.
