In 1975, Gerard Bertrand began his grape harvest at Chateau de Villemajou in the
Corbieres and discovered his passion for wine there. For twelve years, he honed
his skills alongside his father Georges Bertrand, until the fourth generation
finally carried on the legacy. After his father's tragic death in 1987, Gerard
Bertrand took over the family management of the Domaine de Villemajou and
founded the Gerard Bertrand wine company. The Gerard Bertrand Group comprises 16
wineries and 16 chateaux along the Mediterranean coast of France, covering a
total of 850 hectares. Part of the grapes are harvested by hand and matured in
225-litre Bordeaux barrels, while the rest is stored in stainless steel tanks.
Gerard Bertrand Limoux Chardonnay Domaine de L'Aigle is an outstanding white
wine made exclusively from hand-picked Chardonnay grapes. As soon as the grapes
have reached their optimum ripeness, they are carefully transported to the
winery, where a gentle pneumatic pressing takes place in order to preserve the
quality of the must as best as possible. Before the alcoholic fermentation
begins, the must is cooled and allowed to settle. Part of the wine is fermented
in oak barrels, where a complete malolactic acid degradation takes place, which
gives the wine its fine texture. After a period of maturation on the fine lees,
the wine is bottled and closed with a natural cork.
