The Glenfiddich 50 Years is produced in the traditional way. It is the same
method that was used when the distillery opened in 1887.The whisky is a blend of
three different refillable American oak casks. All these casks are matured in
the same warehouse. The maturation for the first cask began in 1966, and the
maturation of the two other casks in 1968. Here, careful selection is not to be
omitted. When the barrels were stored, it was not known which ones would live
for 50 years. A constant control of the volume, alcohol content and quality of
the barrels was necessary to determine whether they were suitable for another
year of aging.
Thousands of barrels were tested to see if they could withstand these
conditions, but only three were suitable. Only when the whisky reached 21 years
of age was it deemed worthy of further maturation. In 2018, the whiskey from the
three casks was blended together and filled into American refill casks, and in
2020 they were finally bottled. The constant control of the casks was divided
between Hamish Robertson (1960-1974), David Stewart (1974-2008) and Brian
Kinsman (2008 to present).
Not only the whisky is unique, but also the packaging. Climate data from the
last 50 years was collected from the exact location where the whisky was
matured. Data artist Manuel Jimenez Garcia used this data to create a 3D
structure. Air pressure, temperature and humidity were measured. A special
algorithm is developed for this physical design language, which was used to
build the mold from aluminum.
This 50-year bottling is part of the Time Series range and is a true rarity.
The item will be available from October 2022. Available of it would be only one
bottle for now. With your purchase you trigger the binding pre-order.
