The Kavalan Distillery was founded in 2005 by T.T. Lee, President of the King
Car Group, to realize his dream of producing his own whisky in Taiwan. Named
after the Yilan region, south-east of Taipei, the distillery benefits from the
excellent water quality of the cold spring water that flows from Snow Mountain.
This ideal resource has made Kavalan a world-renowned producer of premium
whiskies.
Kavalan Lan is a single malt whisky from Taiwan that pays homage to the Yilan
region and the country's rich orchid culture. The name "Lan", the Chinese word
for orchid, symbolizes Taiwan's title as the "Kingdom of Orchids" and combines
the elegance of this flower with the artistry of whisky making.
This whisky is characterized by a harmonious combination of aromas. Its
maturation in bourbon casks brings out fresh vanilla notes, while port casks add
nutty and fruity nuances. In addition, maturation in STR (Shaved, Toasted,
Recharred) wine casks provides a pleasant caramel sweetness that gives the
whisky depth and balance.
