The sailing ship "Kirk and Sweeney", famous for its role in rum smuggling during
Prohibition, was seized off the coast of New York in 1924 with a considerable
amount of rum on board. After its seizure, it was given the new name "Chase" and
served as a training ship for the US Coast Guard before being decommissioned in
the 1940s.
The bottle of this rum is handcrafted from crystal glass and is based on the
traditional designs of earlier times, such as those used around the early 20th
century during the heyday of rum. The crystal stopper of each bottle is
specially customized to ensure a perfect fit. The fine lettering on the bottle
is sandblasted and finished by hand with luxurious gold paint in an elaborate
process.
Carefully crafted in the Dominican Republic, this rum meets the stringent
requirements placed on genuine "Dominican rum". The production process begins
with hand-picked, high-quality sugar cane, which is processed into class 3
blackstrap molasses and then fermented and distilled. The rum is then matured in
a combination of American and French oak barrels, which gives it its
unmistakable variety of aromas.
