Lochlea Distillery is an independent single malt distillery located on Lochlea
Farm in Ayrshire, near Glasgow in the Scottish Lowlands. The conversion of the
former farm into a bonded warehouse distillery took place prior to the start of
operations in August 2018. The business is run by John Campbell, former manager
of Laphroaig Distillery, and is family owned. The farm, where Scottish poet
Robert Burns lived and worked from 1777 to 1784, uses specially grown and
harvested barley and water from limestone springs below the distillery. This
enables full traceability of production.
The Lochlea Ploughing Edition 2nd Crop, matured in former Laphroaig casks
previously used for the Laphroaig 10 Years Old, combines typical fruit and
cereal notes with a hint of Islay. This edition, matured for longer and
exclusively in fresh Islay casks instead of quarter casks, marks a significant
step forward in development compared to the first batch. It is the last in a
series that completes the 2nd Crop Set with the Sowing, Harvest and Fallow
editions.
