The upheavals at the beginning of the 20th century and in particular the First
World War, which destroyed half of Domaine Louis Roederer, prompted Leon Olry
Roederer to rebuild his vineyard. He decided to buy grapes to ensure the survival
of the estate in these times of crisis. At the same time, he created a wine from
several vintages with a consistent taste, regardless of the harvest year.
Louis Roederer's Collection 243 is a refined composition made from 56% of the
2017 harvest, including 42% Chardonnay, 36% Pinot Noir and 22% Meunier. It is
complemented by 10% carefully selected reserve wines and 34% Reserve
Perpetuelle.
This champagne is the result of the union of wines aged in oak barrels from the
three characteristic grape varieties of Champagne, which come from different
crus hand-picked by Louis Roederer.
The careful ageing of this exceptional champagne takes place over a period of
three to four years in the Louis Roederer cellars. Once the ageing phase is
complete, the champagne is bottled and traditionally sealed with a natural cork.
