In the late 1990s, a group of friends wanted to create the first whiskey
distillery in Wales for over a century. The dream was to create a whisky as pure
and precious as Welsh gold.Thus, Penderyn Whisky was launched in 2004 on St.
David's Day. Dr. David Faraday designed a unique copper still with a still that
the friends owned.
The distillery is located in the village of the same name on the southern tip of
the Brecan Beacons mountain range. The fresh, natural spring water available
there is a component of the great whiskies.
A red dragon adorns the flag of Wales and this is under the motto "Y ddraig goch
ddyry cychwyn", which translates as "This fiery creature was brought to Wales by
the Romans".
Numerous Celtic legends talk about this red dragon and today it is seen as a
representative of the whole country.
The red dragon is also clearly visible on the bottle design of the Penderyn
Legend.
The Penderyn Legend Single Malt Welsh Whisky matures in bourbon barrels and
receives its finish in Madeira barrels.
