At the end of the 1990s, a group of friends had an ambitious plan to establish
the first whisky distillery in Wales in over a century. Their goal was to create
a whisky as pure and precious as Welsh gold. In 2004, on St. David's Day, this
dream became reality when Penderyn Whisky was born. The distillery owes its
uniqueness, among other things, to the copper still with a special still
designed by Dr. David Faraday. It is located in the village of Penderyn, at the
southern end of the Brecon Beacons. The pure spring water from the region
contributes significantly to the quality of the exceptional Penderyn whiskies.
Penderyn Patagonia, the 11th whisky in the Icons of Wales Edition, is Penderyn's
first blended malt whisky. It is created by blending Penderyn single malt with
whisky from the La Alazana Distillery in Patagonia and is bottled at 43% ABV.
Inspired by the historic journey of 153 Welshmen who sailed to Patagonia in 1865
to preserve their language and culture, this whisky pays tribute to the heritage
of the Welsh colony in South America. Today there are around 50,000 descendants
and a vibrant Welsh culture.
