The origins of the distillery date back to July 17, 1947, when a simple recipe
was scribbled on a piece of paper. This date marks the beginning of a family
tradition that has been kept as a closely guarded secret through the last days
of the Raj and passed down from generation to generation. For more than 66 years,
this recipe lay dormant until it finally came to light again in 2013. Marcus
Pickering and Matt Gammell founded Summerhall Distillery and began distilling
the first batches of Pickering's Gin.
Our "Orange Top," as Pickering's Gin 1947 Original Gin Bombay Recipe is also
known because of its orange font and cap, remains unchanged and still follows
this classic recipe that captures the essence of our history and tradition. It
is a tribute to the craftsmanship and dedication that has gone into making
Pickering's Gin for so many years.
