Since the founding of the Balvenie distillery, there have been hardly any
changes; the single malts are still produced in the traditional way today.
Together with its sister distillery Glenfiddich, The Balvenie is still
independent and family-owned by its founders.

The Balvenie STORIES bottlings are based on the stories told from one generation
to the next. For the production of The Balvenie A Rare Discovery from Distant
Shores, Malt Master David C. Stewart and the entire Whisky Stocks team gathered
in The Balvenie's Sample Room. John Barrett came up with the idea of including
Caroni rum to make the whisky. As a result, a larger quantity of the rum was
ordered and stocked. Five years later, Malt Master Stewart decided to pour
Balvenie whiskey into casks that had previously held Caroni rum. The result is
an excellent Caroni cask finish, which has never been experienced before.
