In 1263, a chief of Clan Mackenzie saved King Alexander III from an attacking
stag, for which the king granted the clan the right to use the emblem of the
twelve-pointed royal stag in its coat of arms. This incident led to the royal
stag becoming the symbol of Dalmore whisky after the descendants of the
Mackenzie clan took over the Dalmore distillery in 1867. Today, this symbol
proudly adorns every bottle of Dalmore whisky. The distillation of the single
malt whiskies takes place in selected, exceptional casks, which are personally
chosen by Master Distiller Richard Paterson.

Founded in 1839, the Dalmore distillery is located on the coast of the Cromarty
Firth in the northern Highlands of Scotland. Dalmore uses water from the nearby
River Alness, which flows through the town of Alness, to produce its whisky.

The maturation process of Dalmore whisky involves ageing in American oak casks,
followed by an additional maturation period in tawny port pipes, which gives the
whisky a unique flavor.
