The Tomintoul distillery, located in the Scottish Highlands in the Cairngorms
National Park and named after the nearby village of Tomintoul, opened its doors
in 1964 and is now owned by Angus Dundee Distillers.
At 370 meters above sea level, Tomintoul is the second highest distillery in
Scotland, surpassed only by Braeval Distillery, which was founded in 1973.
Although the majority of the 3.2 million liters of alcohol produced annually is
exported to the United States for blends, Tomintoul continues to bring special
single cask bottlings to the market.
This limited edition single malt from the Tomintoul distillery in Speyside,
which was distilled in 2009, matured for 14 years and underwent a carefully
coordinated maturation process. After initially being stored in American oak
bourbon casks, it was then matured in Pedro Ximenez sherry quarter casks,
selected and supervised by master distiller Robert Fleming.
This second maturation phase gave the whisky a special depth and complexity in
its taste profile. Finally, the single malt was produced without the addition of
colorants or chill-filtration, underlining its natural purity and authenticity.
This combination of traditional production and innovative maturation makes this
whisky a special experience for connoisseurs.
