The Tomintoul distillery, located in the Scottish Highlands in the Cairngorms
National Park and named after the nearby village of Tomintoul, opened its doors
in 1964 and is now owned by Angus Dundee Distillers.
At 370 meters above sea level, Tomintoul is the second highest distillery in
Scotland, surpassed only by Braeval Distillery, which was founded in 1973.
Although the majority of the 3.2 million liters of alcohol produced annually is
exported to the United States for blends, Tomintoul continues to bring special
single cask bottlings to the market.
The Tomintoul Madeira Cask Finish is a smooth and finely balanced single malt
whisky that is first matured in American bourbon oak casks. It is then finished
for two years in fortified wine casks from the Portuguese island of Madeira,
which gives it its unique depth and complexity. This special post-maturing
process gives the whisky intense aromas of juicy fruit, delicate oatmeal cookies
and spicy cake, which blend harmoniously together and offer a well-rounded taste
experience.
