THE PRODUCER
Vine Errazuriz was founded by Don Maximiano Errazuriz in the Aconcagua Valley in
1870, yet the estate’s modern history starts with descendant Alfonso Chadwick
taking control at the middle of the 20th century. His son Eduardo joined him
soon after. Alongside running one of Chile’s most recognized wine estates,
Alfonso is also considered to be one of the best polo players in the country’s
history; he was even the captain of the national team for many years. In 1993,
son Eduardo succeeded him as president of Vina Errazuriz. Vinedo Chadwick, has
become a Chilean icon, sought out for its purity, complexity, and multi-layered
fruit concentration.
THE WINE
“Vinedo Chadwick” is a super prestige cuvee, produced by Errazuriz, which honors
the memory of the late Don Alfonso Chadwick Errazuriz. The first vintage was
1999 and released in 2002. Fruit for Vinedo Chadwick is grown on a 15-hectare
vineyard, located 650 meters above sea level at Puente Alto in the Maipo Valley
at foot of Andes along northern bank of Maipo River. The soil consists of clay
loam over alluvial layers of high stone content.
A pure varietal Cabernet Sauvignon, aged in French oak barrels, the 2014 vintage
of Vinedo Chadwick was the first Chilean wine to score 100 points from Robert
Parker, and is uniquely Robert Parker’s highest-rated Cabernet Sauvignon from
Chile for five consecutive years. In the famous Berlin 2004 tasting, the 2000
vintage of Vinedo Chadwick was awarded first place beating several Bordeaux
first growths.

CRITICS SCORES
We choose our wines based on a range of criteria(seehow we choose our wines)of
which critic scores is justone. Rather than simply highlight the best score to
promote a wine, our average critic score is calculated from the scores provided
by several respected wine critics, who we follow for specific regions. They do
not represent all critic scores and, wherever possible, we try and give more
weight to more recent reviews. Where appropriate we consider market-based scores
like Global Wine Score or Wine Searcher Average scores.
As a rule, we look to offer wines that achieve a92/100average critic score or
better and frankly a lot of very good wines simply don’t make the cut. As a
high-end provider we want to reflect that positioning in the quality of wines we
offer. Such wines are only a tiny fraction of those generally on offer in the
market. We believe that an average score is a more conservative and
representative approach, but it is still subjective and only offered as a guide
to our customers, who will (and should) do their own research. We will add
individual critic scores to our website in the future.
