Cagliero Barolo Docg Terlo 2017
Type | Red |
Grapes | Nebbiolo |
Country/Region | Italy, Piedmont |
Vintage | 2017 |
Alcohol | 14.5% |
91 Points - Wine Enthusiast. Extremely low production Barolo - The greatest expression of the grape variety Nebbiolo, this Barolo from the Terlu Cru is from the very dry 2017 vintage and is a more rounded style of Barolo. Cagliero is known to produce some of the best grapes in the region - this 2017 is approachable, with bright acidity and and ethereal aromas of rose, black cherry and spice. A superb Barolo that drinks well now but with still a long life ahead to evolve.
Taste
Aromas of ripe dark-skinned fruit, scorched earth and saddle leather lead the way. The savoury, approachable palate offers dried black cherry, clove and star anise alongside polished tannins.
About the Producer
The Azienda Agricola Cagliero grows the best of Piedmontese grapes, from which the most prestigious red wines are produced. The estate is 6 hectares in size and they grow the classical grapes from the Langhe area: Dolcetto, Barbera, Nebbiolo, Freisa plus a little part of white grapes (Arneis, Favorita and the international Sauvignon Blanc).
All the Farms vineyards are excellently situated on gently-sloping hillsides, either south or south-east facing and at an average altitude of 300 metres above sea level. The soil type is mixed marl with sand originating in the tertiary era. The property includes the Ravera and Terlo crus. The Winery capacity is from 45,000 to
50,000 bottles of wine per year.

91 Points - Decanter (2016)
"The 6ha Cagliero estate is best known for its Ravera from Novello but it also produces Terlo from just across the border in Barolo itself. This exhibits a delicate and floral raspberry nose. It has a fresh attack that's sleek and moderately concentrated, with fine-grained tannins. It's quite pungent and lean from the acidity, but this lean style has its own appeal. Stylish and quite long on the finish."
