This wine is a piece of history and when sold out - it will be wine money cannot buy ! The owner of Château Les Vimières, Jacques Boissenot, was central to the development of new winemaking techniques in Bordeaux before he sadly passed away in 2014. Jacques had his hand on pretty much every First Growth production since the 1960s and was voted Decanter magazine's Winemaker of the Decade in 2010. This Margaux from the outstanding 2010 vintage amply demonstrates how he led the way for quality winemaking over a 50 year career.

Vivino Rating: 4.3 (Apr 2024)

About the Producer

Since 1984 Château Les Vimières has been a family run vineyard and is the personal property of the Boissenot family. Jacques Boissenot always kept a low profile, which is amazing considering that he consulted for four of the first growths of Bordeaux over a 50 year period! The property is now run by his son Eric, who has also taken over all consultancy work following a prolonged apprenticeship at his father's side.

Jacques and Eric have helped to improve the quality of around 180 different properties in the Medoc, including some of the most prestigious estates. In one of Decanter magazine's articles from 2010, it is noted that "if it got the nod in 1855, you can pretty much rest assured that the Boissenots are playing a part in it today".

Taste

The dark fruit is deliciously soft and ripe, whilst heady aromas of tobacco, leather and wet slate are carried on a gorgeous wave of acidity. This is a sublime Margaux, classically structured with dense fruit and supple tannins. This can be left to improve with age, and we can only imagine how good this will taste in a few years!

Food & Wine

Decant and serve with beef wellington or steak. Alternatively, a cheese board will bring out all the nuances of this wine.
