Chateau De Gourdon 921 Le Coq Rose Cotes Du Rhone 2023
Grapes | Grenache |
Vintage | 2023 |
Alcohol | 12.5% |
Nicknamed by the winemaking team as their Buddy wine, the 921 Le Coq Rosé was created to be a joyous, easy-going wine. Produced from a blend of Grenache with a little Syrah and other local varieties, its a pet project only made in relatively small quantities. Fermented in concrete and stainless-steel tanks, it is fruit-driven yet has admirable depth and complexity.
Taste
Lovely ruby pink in colour, the nose is a mix of red cherries and strawberries with a touch of raspberry jam. Medium-bodied and with good intensity, the palate is lively and full of strawberry, cherry and peach fruit with a touch of spiced blackberries to the finish.
About the Producer
Château de Gourdon lies near Bollène, in the heart of the Southern Rhône. It has over 50 hectares of vineyards in the appellations Côtes du Rhône and Côtes du Rhône Village Suze la Rousse, some of which border Châteauneuf du Pape. The vines are well-placed, enjoying a Mediterranean climate and sandy soils which imparts an intensity while the naturally low yields mean the wines have great concentration. The often-fierce intervention of the Mistral keeps pests at bay meaning they dont use pesticides or herbicides. The result wines have a delicious purity of fruit and are an excellent expression of the varieties that made them.
