Produced from a mix of sustainably grown Clairette, Grenache Blanc, Marsanne, Roussanne, and Viognier vines, this is classic Cotes du Rhone Blanc. As with so many of Chateau de Gourdons wines, the Fontaine du Sud is fruit-driven and allows the natural brilliance of the vineyard and vine to shine through. Following a gentle pressing the wines are fermented at low temperatures (typically around 13.5 °C) and then allowed to rest on their lees over the winter. The resulting wine is fresh, complex, and wonderfully aromatic.

Taste

Pale gold, the bouquet is intensely fresh with lovely floral notes giving the blend of apricot, peach, citrus, and mandarin a lift. The palate is clean and vibrant, but behind the rush of white berries, pears, grapefruit and lemon, comes richer flavours of honey, tropical fruits, and dried peel. With its mix of freshness and richness, its an incredibly versatile wine that makes for a stylish aperitif or as a partner to poultry, fish, or cheese dishes.

Blend

20% Clairette, 20% Grenache blanc, 20% Marsanne, 20% Roussanne, 20% Viognier

About the Producer

Château de Gourdon lies near Bollène, in the heart of the Southern Rhône. It has over 50 hectares of vineyards in the appellations Côtes du Rhône and Côtes du Rhône Village Suze la Rousse, some of which border Châteauneuf du Pape. The vines are well-placed, enjoying a Mediterranean climate and sandy soils which imparts an intensity while the naturally low yields mean the wines have great concentration. The often-fierce intervention of the Mistral keeps pests at bay meaning they dont use pesticides or herbicides. The result wines have a delicious purity of fruit and are an excellent expression of the varieties that made them.
