Chateau De Gourdon Vase De Pierre Cotes Du Rhone 2022
Type | Red |
Grapes | Grenache |
Vintage | 2022 |
Alcohol | 15% |
A traditional blend of Grenache (60%) and Syrah (40%), Chateau de Gourdon Vase de Pierre Cotes du Rhone is unusual in being so elegant and refined. Despite boasting an impressive 15% alcohol, its structure is fine and complex. This is achieved by de-stemming the Syrah, giving both grapes long (30 day), cool fermentations and keeping oak ageing to a minimum. The result is an impressively intense, but beautifully rounded wine.
Taste
Deep purple, the bouquet is dominated by fresh black fruits blueberries, black cherries, and plums with a lift of blossoms, spices, and leather. The palate is wonderfully smooth, with lovely fresh black berry fruits underlain by minerals, spices, and fresh red berries.
About the Producer
Château de Gourdon lies near Bollène, in the heart of the Southern Rhône. It has over 50 hectares of vineyards in the appellations Côtes du Rhône and Côtes du Rhône Village Suze la Rousse, some of which border Châteauneuf du Pape. The vines are well-placed, enjoying a Mediterranean climate and sandy soils which imparts an intensity while the naturally low yields mean the wines have great concentration. The often-fierce intervention of the Mistral keeps pests at bay meaning they dont use pesticides or herbicides. The result wines have a delicious purity of fruit and are an excellent expression of the varieties that made them.
