This Chardonnay presents a wonderful contrast between liveliness and roundness, comfort and freshness. Situated on the heights of Savigny-lès-Beaune, the plot called "Les Champlains" is characterized by a poor and very stony soil. One can indeed see numerous "meurgers," these high piles of flat stones extracted from the vineyards over the centuries and piled into walls bordering the plots. The particularly generous sunlight of the plot benefits the grapes, which ripen well, resulting in a dense and tense wine, perfectly balanced.

Taste

With its straw-yellow colour, this Hautes-Côtes de Beaune "Les Champlains" presents notes of white flowers such as hawthorn and acacia, as well as honey. On the palate, the vivacity and freshness are balanced by richness and minerality, resulting in a wine of great balance.

About the Producer

Domaine Decelle-Villa was started in 2008 when two distinguished winemakers from other regions of France decided to pool their talents and produce high quality Burgundy wines. Olivier Decelle is the vigneron behind Mas Amiel in Roussillon, and he also revived Château Jean Faure in Saint-Émilion. Pierre-Jean Villa was part of a boutique Rhône negociant, and he is also a Rhone Valley vigneron. Now they have purchased and restored an historic 19th century cellar in Nuits-Saint-Georges along with about 20 acres of vineyards in various Burgundy locations. They also source grapes from Gevrey-Chambertin to Chassagne-Montrachet for their Domaine Decelle-Villa venture. The domaine makes more than a dozen wines, from a Grand Cru and Premiers Crus to village and regional appellations.
