93 Points - Wine Enthusiast. The Yohan Lardy Beaujolais Vieilles Vignes Moulin-a-Vent 2020 is everything you could wish for from a serious Moulin à Vent from an outstanding vintage. Full-bodied, ripe, weighty, crammed with black fruits and Beaujolaiss signature granite minerality. This small appellation is home to some of Beaujolaiss greatest wines. Yohans winemaking philosophy is refreshingly simple in that he looks to aid nature, not direct it. Techniques like hand ploughing between rows, organic fertilisers and relying on natural yeasts in the winery allow the natural beauty of his old Gamay vines to shine through.

Vivino rating: 4.2 (Jan 2025)

Wine Press Ratings

93 Points - Wine Enthusiast (2020 Vintage)

"Produced from low-yielding vines planted in 1903, this wine has great structure and concentration. Black fruits, generous tannins and wood-aging flavors are very present, so the wine needs time. Drink from 2023. Roger Voss"

Taste

Plum-coloured and with a nose that offers everything from crushed black cherries, strawberries, loganberries and dried rose petals, the Yohan Lardy Beaujolais Vieilles Vignes Moulin-a-Vent 2020s complexity is apparent from the off. In the mouth, its full, rounded, plump and delicious. Theres an intriguing tension between stewed black fruits, fresh red berries, floral notes and savoury minerals that keep your attention fixed. As the finish comes draws in so notes of roasted nuts, sweet and sour cherries, herbs and firm, dry tannins come. Savour this with roasted red meats, poultry in a tomato sauce, game or hard yellow cheeses.

About the Producer

Yohan Lardy is one of a new breed of winemakers breathing new life into this ancient winemaking region. While only in his thirties, hes already spent time studying in Chile whose nature-first approach is one hes adopted at home. His domaine now owns a total of 8 hectares of vines in the Beaujolais Crus of Fleurie, Moulin à Vent and Chenas. His wines have already won him critical acclaim with leading names highlighting the aromatic, fruit-forward profile of wines, and their complex, terroir-driven character. In keeping with the best Beaujolais wines, Yohans Moulin-a-Vent 2020 drank well young but has what it takes to age gracefully for another 5-10 years.
