Zédé de Labégorce is the second wine of Château Labégorce, one of Margauxs oldest estates with a history dating back to the fourteenth century. The estate lies on the plateau to the northwest of Chateau Margaux and just to the north of Chateau Lascombes. In keeping with the rest of the commune, Labégorce produced exceptional wines in 2020. The Zédé de Labégorce shows all of Margauxs style and elegance but has a powerful structure thanks to the heat and the high levels of Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend. Drinking well now, it has the ability to develop over the next 5 years or more.
Vivino Rating: 4.1 (July 2024)
Taste
The Zédé de Labégorce is very deeply coloured and offers a fine bouquet of black fruits, plums, violets and oriental spices. Plump and juicy, it has a good balance between concentration and freshness, and the blackberry, cherry, and blueberry fruit is nicely set off by minerals and savoury tones.
About the Producer
Château Labégorce has had a strange history. Divided into three properties following the French Revolution, it wasnt until all three were acquired by the billionaire Perrodo family in 2005 that it came back together. They subsequently merged them into one, so seeing the end of Labégorce Zédé in 2008. Vines lay on sandy gravel with some more silty soils and extend to 70 hectares. They are planted with 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, the rest being given over to Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Significant investment in the property has been made with stainless steel and concrete tanks being installed and 50% new oak barrels used for the Grand Vin.
