91 Points - Natalie Maclean - A consistently great McLaren Vale Shiraz. Generously rich with amazing fruit weight and balanced, chewy tannins. Brimming with ripe red fruits and an underlying layer of subtle oak, as well as a hint of pepper. This wine represents great value, and has a long life ahead of it... If you can resist!
Taste
Earthy, spicy Shiraz from McLaren Vale in South Australia, full of black plums, liquorice and black pepper, with a peaty under layer of mushroom, pipe tobacco and charcuterie.

"d'Arenberg's The Footbolt 2019 is a great value Shiraz produced from sustainably-grown grapes sourced from the McLaren Vale. Dry, medium-bodied with a mouthful of berry fruit flavours, this wine overachieves for the price with black raspberry, black currant, grilled herbs, bell pepper and spicy aromas and flavours on the nose and palate. Good now, better in 2023 when tannins will begin to mellow. The wine was aged 18 months in French and American oak barrels and bottled unfined and unfiltered. Footbolt was so named in honour of the racehorse that founder Joseph Osborn had to sell in order to start the d'Arenberg winery in 1912."
