Barolo Badarina Riserva comes from Vigna Regnola, the Badarina side historically planted with Nebbiolo grapes given an excellent exposure and an extremely suitable terrain. The concentration of the grapes of this plot allows to produce a Badarina of greater structure and power, which follows the vinification of the gra es of the same mention but is proposed after longer refinements, in cask and in the bottle. It is produced only in the best vintages and the production level is low. Food pairing: rich dishes such as mains with meat, game, stew and matured cheese. Grape variety: Nebbiolo 100%. Vineyard: Vigna Regnola located in the municipality of Serralunga dAlba, MGA Badarina. Exposure: South. Altitude: 450 m.a.s.l. Soil: white marls with rich limestone, good presence of clays and layers of sandstone (sand cemented with limestone). Soil composition: Formazione di Lequio, circa 15 million years old. Harvest: grapes are harvested in plastic crates by hands between the beginning and mid-October. Clusters are selected before the harvest. Vigna Regnola is vinified on its own. Fermentation takes place in temperature controlled tanks. Long skin contact macerations that last 25-35 days and submerged cap management are also carried out. Malolactic fermentation occurs in stainless steel and concrete tanks. Ageing in big Slavonian oak barrels and French oak tonneaux for 24-30 months. The wine is then aged in bottle before being released onto the market. Aromas of menthol, balsamic herb, exotic spice and a floral note lead the nose. On the full-bodied palate, assertive close-grained tannins provide the backbone for dried black cherry, licorice and espresso. Drink 20222032. KERIN OKEEFE
Region
Piedmont

Piemonte, in the north-western corner of the Italian peninsula, sits at the foot of the Western Alps, which encircle the region to the north and west. Its seasons are very distinctive: hot, dry summers, cold winters, and temperate springs and autumns are common with occasional fog during harvest time.

DOC and DOCG

The region’s pedigree is apparent in its 58 DOC and DOCG zones, and it has the highest percentage of classified wines in all of Italy.

Grape Varieties

Nebbiolo is the grape used in Piedmont's most important DOCGs: Barolo, Barbaresco and Gattinara. Barbera, a dark-skinned variety, is responsible for a growing number of superlative wines, labelled as Barbera del Monferrato, Barbera d’Asti or Barbera d'Alba.

Another important red grape is Dolcetto, with several DOCs to its name (d'Alba, d'Acqui and di Ovada are the top three). Although its name means 'little sweet one', Dolcetto gives red wines with an appetizing, gently bitter finish. Although Piedmont is known as a red-wine region, there are whites that have to be mentioned: Moscato d’Asti and sparkling Asti Spumante, both made from Moscato grapes; Gavi is the most renown still white, made from the Cortese grape, a local variety which gives a clean and citrussy white. Crisp, floral Arneis is the grape used for whites in Roero appellation..
