With the grapes destined to become this Isole e Olena Vin Santo delib rately harvested by Paolos team earlier than typical for each vintage, this 2004 iteration is slightly lighter and more citric in style than other Vin Santo's, meaning that this remains a sweet and richly textured wine on the palate. Despite being almost a decade old, flavours of sweet and ripe tropical fruits sit to the fore, with notes of pineapple, apricot and a hint of orange zest only segueing into the nutty and caramelly characters of more mature Vin Santo from the mid-palate. A bright acidity (another factor in the decision to harvest early each year) provides impressive drive to this Isole e Olena Vin Santo and cleanses the very long finish. Suitable for drinking now, or for cellaring (through to 2025 should you wish), this 2004 Isole e Olena Vin Santo is a hugely accomplished example of this iconic Tuscan dessert wine. 90/100 points.
