The Terroir
Geography: The Côte-Rôtie from Les Terriens comes from vines located on plots in the south of the appellation, in Ampuis. These steep slopes have wonderful exposure to the sun, which matures the grapes perfectly.
Soils: Rich in iron, granitic soils.
Climate: Temperate continental with hot, dry summers.
The Vine
Age of the vines: 20 to 40 years old.
Density: 10,000 vines per hectare.
Pruning: "Goblet" pruning on stakes and "cordon de royat" pruning on wires.
Vinification & Ageing
Wine is made and aged from each plot separately before blending.
Vinification: Manual harvest, de-stemmed. Sent to a vibrating table then to the tanks on a conveyor belt. Maceration for 20 days, temperature control.
Ageing: 18/24 months in barrels and 600L 1/2 muids. Racking and blending 6 weeks before bottling.
The Style
Appearance: Elegant ruby red colour.
Aroma: Very pleasant nose with red fruit notes (raspberry, cherry).
Taste: Full and rich with soft tannins. Aromas of red fruits, spices (pepper) and licorice. Combines power and finesse and has a strong potential for storage.
Les Terriens Advice
Temperature: To be served between 14-16°C.
