Champagne Albert Levasseur is a very small grower house set up by David's grandfather in 1944, and named after his father, the diminutive 4.2 hectares of vines farmed by David since 2003.
Champagne is traditionally more about what happens in the cave than the vineyard, but David takes a very different approach, and is passionate about exploring the differences in the terroir around his family home. The Blanc de Terroir is organic Chardonnay from several miniscule plots of vines in Cuchery, but mostly from L'Olivière (planted 2003) and Les Chemins de Champlat (planted 2007). All grapes from 2011 harvest, made in a dry style and only 1,500 bottles. This shows gorgeous fruit intensity, bags of plums, white peaches and pears, some almonds, elderflower and acacia honey, then more nuts and toasted bread. Minerally. Moussey. And quite magnificent.
