Great wines are made on the vine, and when the variety, aspect and soil type are right, Australias wine regions deliver elegant, textured and fruit-driven wines that hold their own with the best in the world. Sam Coverdale established Even Keel in 2006 with a vision to create drinkable, elegant wines that celebrate the individual strengths of Australias wine regions. Since 2009, he has specialised in single-vineyard wines from his Polperro farm in the higher reaches of the Mornington Peninsula, using a mix of organic and biodynamic viticulture.
The Even Keel Pinot Gris is a blend of the following vineyards:
Bassat vineyard, on an easterly slope 190m above sea level, in Red Hill. Tuerong vineyard, on a northerly slope 50m above sea level, in Tuerong.Grapes were hand-picked and gently whole-bunch pressed. Wild fermentation and minimal sulphur added, maturing in barrel for 6 months before being racked off gross lees and into tank. Bottled without fining or filtration.
It's a multi-layered Pinot Gris with masses of fresh, ripe fruit. This style lures you in with a texturally rich palate that lingers and lingers through a dry finish.
