Cabernet Sauvignon, but not as you know it! South Africa especially is famous for its bigger reds, like Cabernet-driven Bordeaux blends, but this is very much on the lighter side. In fact we'd compare it to old-school Bordeaux clairet, the light, juicy, ancestor to today's heavier claret (and indeed where we get the word 'claret' from). These Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are hand-picked from Black Elephant Vintner founder Kevin's small farm, right in the heart of Franschhoek.

Flavour-wise, don't expect weighty tannins, oak or extract. Just eight or so hours on the skins has left a pale red colour and a touch of texture, but otherwise this is all about juicy, thirst-quenching cranberry and blackcurrant fruit, crucially very dry and savoury. A stunningly versatile food partner.
