The Môrelig farm (the name means "morning light") has long grown and supplied grapes for some of the Swartland's most celebrated winemakers but encouraged by these neighbours, Andrew Wightman and more recently joined by his son Brandon began making wine of their own as members of the Swartland Independent movement.
From the outset Andrews wines have been made intuitively and naturally, respecting the unique gifts bestowed by some of the finest old vines in the Swartland.
His hallmark Chenin Blanc comes from unirrigated bush vines grown on decomposed granite soils at the foot of the Paardeberg. Fermented naturally, basket-pressed, matured in old oak barrels for 8 months. It's glorious, with bright fruit on the palate, hints of honey and some greener notes, a lightest hint of old oak to round it all off.
