Priorat is home to some of Spains best full-bodied reds. Portal del Montsant's vineyards are small parcels of varying aspects at 800 metres above sea level. Here you've got old vine Samsó (what the locals call Carignan) and Garnacha on hitherto abandoned steep banks and a variety of soil types.
Hand-hervested and naturally made, this is a softer, fresher, surprisingly easygoing sort of Priorat, a robust style of red wine that is usually much, much bigger and denser. Deeb ruby in colour here, with a youthful violet rim, rich dark fruits dominate the nose, and a softer, juicier profile comes to the fore on the palate, with toast and spice. So juicy!
