Di Giovanna is among the oldest viticulturalist familys in Sicily. The family property is now managed by brothers Gunther and Klaus Di Giovanna. Their organically cultivated vineyards are nestled in the mountainside of Monte Genuardo, a protected nature reserve in the heart of the Terre Sicane zone.
The vineyards are planted with international and indigenous varietals after extensive soil studies in the 1980s. The white varietals include Chardonnay, Grillo & Viognier and the red varietals Nero dAvola, Nerello Mascalese, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon & Merlot. The soils consist of volcanic tuff, chalky, limestone and clay mix. The family vineyards are worked by hand from pruning until harvest, following organic methods from the vineyards to the wine cellar.
Gerbino Rosso IGP Terre Siciliane is a blend of Syrah (70%), Nero dAvola (15%) and Merlot (15%). Medium bodied red wine with good structure, aged for 12 months in stainless steel and 6 months in neutral oak barrels. Expressive on the nose, with aromas of currants, blueberries, wild berries and spices. On the palate it is well-balanced and shows good minerality and structure.
Pair with: roasted or grilled chicken or pork with roasted vegetables. Alternatively, the typical potatoes with rosemary and Sicilian sausages.
We also sell Di Giovannas Gerbino Rose, Gerbino Bianco, Vurria Grillo and Vurria Nero DAvola.
