In England's famous "Black Country", Sadler's has been a supplier of the finest spirits and beers since 1861. Before the Industrial Revolution, the Black Country was a rural area with many fields and farms. The working men and women of the region spent their holidays on hop, dairy and fruit farms elsewhere (Worcestershire hops were used in the local brewery at the time) and were rewarded with free accommodation and fresh produce, returning home with produce from the surrounding areas. The rum travelled on the canal system from Bristol to Bewdley and then on to the rest of the black country on horseback. Annie Sadler's marriage established the link between two brewing and distilling families, the Jordan family and the Sadler family. The union of these two families was the beginning of the expansion of the business, which now owned 13 pubs.
