In the 19th century, the smuggling of alcohol across the Baltic Sea to Sweden flourished. In 1889 the smuggler Carls Petter Aandersson got into heavy seas with his smuggler boat "Andalö". The smuggled alcohol was mixed with the fresh sea buckthorn juice that Andersson had taken on board to fortify himself, and the result was a wonderfully tasting spirit.
