This rum is characterized by the climatic conditions of the Central American state of Nicaragua. It is produced by the Compania Licorera de Nicaragua, which has been based in Managua since 1890. But the distillery is not located in Managua. It is near the sugar factory in Chichigalpa - about 120 kilometers from Managua. This rum takes its name from the small island of the same name in Lake Cocibolca in Nicaragua. This Zapatera rum matures in 200 liter American white oak barrels.
