One of the oldest estates in the Medoc dating back to 1599, though the Château dates from 1876; bought in 1965 by Marc Pages now run by his grandsons Frédéeric Le Clerc and Benjamin Richer des Forges who have bought more land and built a new cellar. The vines are quite old averaging 40 years of age, 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot, planted on the highest site north of Pauillac, which is not saying much as the surrounding land is as flat as a pancake. The wine is a classically structured Claret with tobacco leaf and chocolate notes to the Cabernet fruit and ripe tannins. Drinking well but always keeps very well
Style: medium-full bodied, complex
Maturity: drinking now but would keep well too
