The Mt. Brave Vineyard, previously named Chateau Potelle, was established in the late 2000’s when it was bought by the Jackson Family who installed Chris Carpenter as chief winemaker; he had already worked on many of their finest wines, Lokoya in Napa and Clos Cardinale in St Emilion. The vineyards sit between 1400-1800ft high on Mount Veeder one of the coolest sites in the Napa Valley. The vines sit above the fog line, with morning sun warming the grapes each day. Soils are sparse, consisting of a gravelly loam with rocks large and small. Nutrients and minerals are scant, resulting in tiny berries with concentrated and complex flavours. The stunning Cabernet Sauvignon is a fantastic example of a Bordeaux style blend, being mostly Cabernet Sauvignon and just 4% Merlot and 3.5% Cabernet Franc spends 19 months in oak. Seamless with Espresso, blueberry, anise, and violet notes, structural silky tannins working in harmony with a long, balanced finish. 95 points from the Wine Advocate.

Mt. Veeder AVA at 25 square miles is the largest in the Napa Valley, established in 1993, but numbers do not really tell the story. The mountain itself is 15,000 acres but just 1,000 acres are planted to grapes, less than 2 percent of Napa Valley’s production with the lowest average yields in the region. Mt. Veeder to enjoy daytime temperatures 10° to 15° cooler than those on the Napa Valley floor. The growing season moves slowly, with harvest here stretching into November
