The 220 acre site, previously used for grazing and Alfalfa growing was bought in 2006 by Suki Sekhon and named Vanessa after the Greek name for butterflies which thronged the pastures. The estate consists of 75 acres of vines and is run by the famous Canadian winemaker Howard Soon.
Vanessa’s Vineyard is situated high up overlooking British Columbia’s Similkameen Valley. The site is rocky which helps to hold in the warmth overnight and gives a mineral backbone to their wines.
This impressive wine offers a knock out nose of dark Cabernet fruit with plummy Merlot and a powerful long rich palate balance by good acidity and wrapped in sweet oak, very long.
A blend of 38% Cabernet sauvignon, 37% Cabernet Franc and 25% Merlot picked together and co-fermented then aged in oak for 30 months. Only 4 barrels made, 98 cases.
The Similkameen Valley is situated just west of the Okanagan Valley. The step valley sides trap warmth from the long sunshine hours, even overnight aiding ripeness and the dry air caused by warm winds, means little spraying is required, ideal for organic farming.
Style: full bodied, fruity, powerful, rich, warm, very long
