Viña Pedrosa’s excellent Crianza comes from 20-30 year-old Tempranillo vines grown at about 800 metres up in the Ribera del Duero region. The altitude and poor chalky clay soils make the vines struggle and the cold winters and warm summers give a long ripening period. The wines are fermented in tank and the whole spends a year in French and then a year in American oak barrels with further time in bottle. Giving a dark spicy nose and a full powerful long palate.
Viña Pedrosa was founded by the three Perez Pascuas Brothers in 1980 who saw the potential to develop their father’s vineyards at a time when this now important region was just finding fame.
Style: full bodied, aromatic, fruity, long, powerful
Maturity: drinking now but could keep a few years too
