Anwilka Vineyards Petit Frère is the estates second wine, and little brother of their Red Blend. The name is a tribute to Anwilkas French heritage owed to co-owners Hubert de Boüard and Bruno Prats, both of whom are now shareholders. Deep ruby in colour. Aromas of red cherries and dark fruit give way to a light oak spice. Gentle and smooth upon entry, the palate is medium to full-bodied with well-structured tannins. The wine is fresh and vibrant concluding with a lengthy finish. The perfect accompaniment to most red meat dishes as well as roasted beef and confit duck.
Anwilka Vineyards is located just 7 kilometres from the ocean in Stellenboschs prime Helderberg region. The significant maritime influence in the region nables exceptional fruit quality, the matching of grape varieties to specific sites was carefully considered. The property was purchased in the late 1990s and extensive replanting of 40 hectares of vineyards comprising primarily cabernet sauvignon, shiraz and some merlot followed. Anwilka has since established a worldwide reputation for their eponymous 2005 maiden vintage blend of Syrah-Cabernet, described by Robert Parker as the finest red wine I have ever had from South Africa.
